This forum will be hosted and moderated by Dr. Jennifer Ashton, Emmy Award-winning journalist and former ABC News’ Chief Health and Medical Correspondent and will feature a panel of accomplished Women Service Members & Veterans discussing important topics such as Triumphs and Challenges, Accomplishments and Sacrifice, and the Future of Women’s Service, Health, and Opportunities. Meet the Moderator

Dr. Jennifer Ashton is an Emmy® Award winning journalist, best-selling author, double board-certified OB-GYN, and now Founder and CEO of Ajenda. Ajenda is a groundbreaking women’s health and wellness company addressing the challenges of menopause health and weight management in today’s health conversation.

Most recently, Dr. Ashton was ABC News’ Chief Health and Medical Correspondent and co-host of GMA3: What You Need To Know, where she reported on the latest breaking health and medical news and elevated the conversation around women’s health and wellness. Ashton was the only network medical correspondent who is a specialist in Women’s Health and the only doctor with a national media platform who also holds a degree in nutrition and obesity medicine. She was also only the third physician to hold the position of chief medical correspondent in the 75-plus-year history of ABC News.

She is the recipient of the prestigious Columbia DuPont award for Excellence in Journalism and was a 2024 John Jay Award honoree by her alma mater for her distinguished work with ABC. Her advocacy in women’s health has also earned her the esteemed 2023 Women Changing the World Award from the American Heart Association.

Before joining ABC News, Ashton was the senior medical correspondent for CBS News and appeared on “The Early Show” and “CBS Evening News.” Ashton is also the author of six bestselling books, including most recently, “The New Normal: A Roadmap to Resilience in the Pandemic Era” (2021).

Meet the Panelists

Lieutenant General Mary K. Izaguirre is The 46th Surgeon General of the United States Army and Commanding General, United States Army Medical Command. Prior to her appointment as The Surgeon General and Commanding General, she served as the Commanding General, U.S. Army Medical Readiness Command, East.

LTG Izaguirre received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Houghton College in 1991 and was commissioned through the Health Professions scholarship program as a second lieutenant in the United States Army.

She received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 1995 from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and completed residency training in Family Medicine in 1998, and Faculty Development Fellowship in 2002, both at Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, Washington.
LTG Izaguirre is board certified in Family Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She received a Master of Public Health from the University of Washington in 2002, a Master of Military Arts and Science from the Command and General Staff College in 2008, and a Master in National Security and Resource Strategy at the Dwight D. Eisenhower School of National Security and Resource Strategy in 2015.

LTG Izaguirre’s military education includes the War College, Army Command and General Staff College, AMEDD Officer Advanced Course, AMEDD Officer Basic Course, Army Flight Surgeon Course, Division Surgeon Course, and Brigade Command Course. LTG Izaguirre’s military assignments include Commander, Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii from 2018-2020; Supervisory Assistant Deputy Health Affairs, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, (MPQ), Pentagon, Washington, DC from 2015-2018; Commander, U.S. Army Health Clinic Schofield Barracks, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii from 2012-2014; Division Surgeon, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado, and Tikrit, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn from 2009-2012; Chief of Soldier Care, Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, Colorado from 2008-2009; Director of Residency Training, Department of Family Medicine, Fort Liberty, North Carolina from 2005-2007; Associate Program Director, Department of Family Medicine, Fort Liberty, North Carolina from 2003-2005; Deputy Surgeon, Combined Joint Civil Military Operations Task Force, Bagram, Afghanistan in 2003; Director of Research, Family Medicine Residency Program, Dewitt Army Community Hospital, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Faculty Development Fellow, Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, Washington from 2000-2002, and Family Medicine Residency Faculty, Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, Washington from 1998-2000. Prior to her current position, she served as the Commanding General for Medical Readiness Command, East from 2021-2023.

LTG Izaguirre’s military awards include the Army Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Bronze Star Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), and the Army Achievement Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster). LTG Izaguirre is an Army Flight Surgeon, has earned the Expert Field Medical Badge, the Army Staff Identification Badge, and holds The Surgeon General’s 9A Designation. LTG Izaguirre is a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit.

LTG Izaguirre and her husband Joseph Izaguirre remain grounded through the joy and adventures of parenting their five children.

Major Sidney Jaques commissioned as an AG officer from the University of Scranton in 2012 as an ROTC cadet and four-year Basketball athlete.

Her first assignment was a Postal Platoon Leader on Fort Liberty, and she deployed her platoon to Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, and Jordan to maintain Postal Operations for the CENTCOM AOR. Upon redeployment, she was assigned as the Battalion S1 for the “White Falcon” 2-325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2BCT, 82nd Airborne Division where she was the first female MTOE assigned to any of the three Infantry Battalions within 2BCT. This two-year assignment included a deployment to Erbil and Mosul, Iraq in 2017. She then attended the AG-CCC where she trained for the Ranger Assessment Selection Program 2 (RASP2) to serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Upon completion of RASP2 in December 2017, she was assigned as the Regimental S1 (BDE S1 OIC) for the 75th Ranger Regiment. She was the second female to complete RASP2 and serve in the organization. Once she PCS’d to Fort Moore in January 2018, she attended and graduated the U.S. Army Ranger School in October 2018, becoming the first Ranger tabbed and scrolled woman in the U.S. Army. She served as the RS1 for over two years, to include two deployments as a JTF J1. She then completed a Training with Industry assignment through IPPS-A for one year in Orlando, Florida. In October 2021, she reported to HQDA G1 (IPPS-A) where she designed future capabilities in the Talent Management and Future Capabilities team and then served as the Chief of Plans and Operations.

She is currently assigned to the Army Field Support Center on Fort Meade where she serves as an Activity XO.

Major Kasandra A. Clark (Kaci) is from Fayetteville, Georgia. She was a competitive Level 10 Junior Olympic gymnast and track & field state champion throughout her childhood. She competed all four years of college as a sprinter, long jump and pole vault specialist. She was Patriot League Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, Patriot League Indoor and Outdoor Pole Vault Champion, school record holder and team captain her senior year. She competed in the 2011 World Military Games in Brazil. Kaci received a bachelor’s in Psychology from The United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point and was commissioned as an Aviation Officer in 2011.

Following graduation from USMA, she attended Army flight school and learned to fly Blackhawk Helicopters (UH-60 A/L). Kaci’s first assignment was to Fort Campbell, KY where she started coaching and competing in Functional Fitness and CrossFit. On her first deployment in 2014, she was a flight platoon leader and coached regularly at the FOB CrossFit gym. In 2015, she assessed and was accepted into 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) as one of the first females & first Black female helicopter pilot. She deployed to multiple countries, commanded, and flew over a thousand hours during her time as a Special Operations Helicopter Pilot.

In 2019, Kaci was selected to compete as a member of the Army Warrior Fitness Team. This 12 member team was selected to compete nationally and internationally in Crossfit, Powerlifting and Strongman; aiming to help increase awareness, relationships and recruiting with the civilian population.

Kaci is an Army Master Fitness Trainer, U.S.A. Weightlifting, CrossFit Gymnastics, Power Monkey Fitness Coach, and CrossFit Level 2 certified. She has also coached at the local CrossFit Gym in every place she has lived in.

Kaci served as an Inspector General within the Army Reserve Aviation Command before transitioning into the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR). She is a lead instructor with O2X; a human performance company geared to educate people in high stress and dynamic jobs to better live out their lives and careers physically, nutritionally, and mentally; a counselor for BreakTurn; a mentoring service group assisting aviation veterans transition from the military to the civilian commercial aviation industry, and a board member for Guardian Revival; a veteran service group aiming to prevent depression and suicide. She currently lives in Atlanta, GA with her husband, Tim, and is a pilot with Frontier Airlines.

Jennifer Silva serves as chief program officer of Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP). In this role, she
is responsible for providing strategic direction, management, and coordination for WWP programs
and services.

Through the years, Jennifer has led the way in creating several new programs and business teams since joining WWP in 2008. Before taking on her current position, Jennifer led the strategy and innovation team, overseeing the creation of cutting-edge programs and development of business analytics and outcome measurements. Prior to this, she led the economic empowerment team, focusing on education and employment programs for wounded warriors and their families.

Jennifer first joined WWP as the director of the TRACK™ program and later served as program
metrics and integration director, measuring the effectiveness and outcomes of all WWP programs.
Jennifer is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and served in the Army
as a logistics officer. Before coming to WWP, Jennifer worked in the financial field, owned her own
business, and was a secondary school educator.

Madison Marsh, Miss America 2024 and a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force, was born and raised in Arkansas. She graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 2023 with a degree in physics. She made history as the first active-duty Air Force officer to hold a Miss America state title, being crowned as Miss Colorado 2023. Madison established the Whitney Marsh Foundation to honor her mother, who passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 41. As founder and president, she successfully raised over a quarter of a million dollars dedicated to pancreatic cancer research.

Having interned with Harvard Medical School, Madison utilized AI for pancreatic cancer detection while pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. A National Truman Scholar and two-time National Astronaut Scholar, Madison achieved eight Dean’s List recognitions at the USAFA and completed a NASA internship for gamma-ray burst research.

In addition to her academic achievements, Madison is also a certified Private Pilot with a black belt in Taekwondo. In her free time, she enjoys soaring through the skies, cooking pasta, and immersing herself in a good read. Madison embodies the legacy and purpose of the Miss America opportunity by her values of service and excellence both in her military career and philanthropic endeavors.

Serving Women Veterans at Home Base

Women Veterans represent nearly 20% of our patient population at Home Base, yet they’ve seen the highest increase in suicide rates according to the latest VA report. In response, we offer year-round programming and two annual Intensive Clinical Programs, along with outpatient groups tailored exclusively for Women Veterans and Service Members experiencing PTSD, TBI, and other invisible wounds—all at no cost to them.

Home Base operates the nation’s premier clinical program dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war that affect our Veterans, active Military, their Families, and Families of the Fallen. A partnership between the Red Sox Foundation and Mass General Hospital (MGH), Home Base leveraged the exceptional clinical resources of MGH, Harvard Medical School, and the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital to reimagine what is possible in Veteran care. To date, we have provided world-class care to over 35,000 individuals, all at no cost to them.
